What
types of tattoos can be removed?
The Medlite Q-Switched Nd:Yag laser can remove professional, amateur, and
traumatic tattoos. Generally, darker colored inks (black, blue and red)
are the easiest to remove since they will absorb the laser light bursts
most efficiently. Oranges and purples also respond well. The lighter shades
of green and yellow are more difficult to treat. For those situations, additional
treatments are usually required to accomplish the maximum results with the
least possible damage to surrounding skin.
Is the treatment painful?
At Monarch
Medspa, we provide two forms of anesthetic to make your treatment as
comfortable as possible. Depending on the size of your tattoo, you
will either be offered lidocaine injection or a topical anesthetic
cream to
help ease the discomfort of tattoo removal. The method chosen depends
on the
size of your tattoo. Tattoos that can be injected will be completely
numb during the removal process. If you have a larger tattoo, we will
provide
you with a prescription topical anesthetic cream to apply one hour prior
to your laser appointment. The combination of the anesthetic cream and
our Smart Cool device will enable even those with very large tattoos
to
tolerate
the process. After your treatment, a nurse will provide you with a full
set of instructions on how to care for your tattoo. With proper care,
you will only experience temporary discomfort similar to a sunburn
and some
minor itching as the tattoo heals.
How many treatments will be required?
As mentioned above this depends on the type of tattoo, the colors and depth
of the ink in the skin. Generally, professional tattoos will require 6-10
treatments while amateur tattoos will need 5-7 treatments. Multi colored
tattoos, especially those with lighter colored inks, may require more. Treatments
should be spaced 6-8 weeks apart to give your body time to absorb the inks
from the previous treatment.
